The Anderson POW camp was an amazing new kind of memorial to experience. It definitely evoked emotion. This shows how war is not all honor, glamor and glory. This North gate entrance is where the prisoners would enter the camp some never to taste freedom again. The enclosed tree was a well or possible escape tunnel that was dug by some prisoners when the camp was in use. Fresh water was a scarcity creating a need to dig in search of it. Sometimes those wells became tunnels for attempted escapes.
