Last Day! The last stop of the trip was Shiloh National Military Park! A four hour drive across Northern Alabama and southwest Tennessee brought us to Shiloh. We watched the award winning film first and then Ranger Charles Spearman led us on an in-depth tour of the park. His humorous anecdotes and stories brought the battle to life and we walked key areas of the battle as well as saw all the great memorials. We stopped for a group picture at the large Confederate memorial that epitomized the emotion and despair of this bloody battle. This tour was very different from our previous park visits on this trip and was a good juxtaposition on which to end.
This evening focuses on group projects/presentations which causes some angst but also shows cooperation across our diverse student group. We are looking forward to seeing our students views of what they have learned.
The trip has been fun and they seem to have grasped key concepts and been able to apply them. They have talked about observing what they never noticed previously and realizing how societies are still so very much affected by their past!
